Dwemors and Research. This section describes some of the proccess and rules for doing spell Research and creating Dwemors.
Research: Spell research is most easily done by having a spellbook from which to learn, either a soft cast or real spell book will work the same. *Soft cast spellbooks are created by Translators at the academy because it allows them to imbue his imprint of the spell on multiple spell books, as his mind sees it, but he loses the ability to cast it when the spell is imbued and students simply attempt to learn from it but can't actually use it to cast like they would be able to with a imbued or soft cast scroll.
Imbued scrolls can be used by even non-magical people often functioning off a particular trigger (Many wizards will also add a cancel trigger so they don't risk the spell if it is stolen or lost)
Soft cast scrolls are spells imprinted onto a scroll in order for a wizard to cast, this is often used to give other wizards the ability to cast a particular spell without first learning it. The scroll does not provide a lot of information about the spell itself.
Research with a spellbook: Time is a number of days equal to the spell LvL per attempt. The DC is as follows : 0: 10, 1: 15, 2: 20, 3: 25, 4: 30, 5: 35, 6: 40, 7: 45, 8: 50, 9: 55 Any failed attempt will destroy focus items as well. Spells get progressively harder as the spell level raises. Possible Bonuses for spell research:
Research without a spell book: The DC without a spell book is doubled for all spell levels, except 0, and the time it takes to research it is doubled. All the previous bonuses can still apply but the following also help:
Dwemors
A Dwemor is a spell that is created or modified by a caster.
Spell Modification: Spell modification will fall under one of the following categories:
*Note that all Dwemors will be given final judgement by the current DM*
Cost of Spell Modification: Spell level *200gp + spell components x10 per attempt. It takes 1 week per spell level of research for each attempt.
DC: Knowledge Arcana DC = spell level *10 EX. 4th lvl = DC 40
Modifiers to DC:
Spells that are modified in any way may recieve new/more expensive material components and possible level adjustments as the DM sees fit. Also note that since spells are normally difficult to balance to start off with and the DM reserves the right to "Update" any rules about any spell at any time modified or not. This is not to punish players but to keep the game fun and balanced.
Creating a spell: Spell creation requires an 8th lvl feat (Wizard level 8) Dwemor. *Spell creation will be expanded at a later date.
