Ten thousand years ago, existed the great warrior spell-shaper Kargum Adun. He is said to be the first known user of the forbidden arts as well as a master of the spear and combat tactics. He traveled the lands using his awesome power to protect the innocent and to provide stability and order. His spear was crafted from a branch given by the ancient protector of the woods, Yurninot. When she gave Adun the branch she told him to craft his weapon from it but do not change its shape. The weapon you make will be linked to you and you to it. Kargum did as Yurninot told him and crafted his weapon using the branch, unshaped and unchanged. Using this spear Kargum Adun led and army against the tyrant ancient wyrm Balgorimoth. This dragon’s scales were blood red and he was by far the largest creature in existence. His power seemed unmatched, kingdom after kingdom bowed to him. Balgorimoth horded their offerings and amassed a great treasure. Kargum was angered by the dragon’s actions and as he approached the entrance of the creature’s lair with his army behind him he ordered them to stop. He decided the he did not want this dragon to claim even one more life and told his armies to return home. Kargum told them that he was going to face Balgorimoth alone. Kargum descended into Balgorimoth’s lair and fought with him for thirty days. Although big, Balgorimoth was extremely clever and recognized Kargum’s power. He always attacked from a shadow or from a strange location only to retreat to another part of his labyrinth like home. Kargum eventually outsmarted Balgorimoth and cornered him. With a final blow from his spear Kargum Adun killed Balgorimoth. At that moment the very essence of the great wyrm was absorbed into Kargum’s spear. The wood turned red like the color of the dragon and four gems seem to grow from the wood itself. Kargum continued to stay deep in Balgorimoth’s lair searching through the dragon’s vast sea of treasure. Among it he found things that could further his studies. Old objects, history books and ancient scrolls, all greater than the gold he sat upon. When he emerged he had decided to turn his back on the world and he devoted the rest of his life to the path of arcane. He locked himself away with his vast treasure and knowledge in a place he built himself never to be seen by the world again.
