The Lichnee started out as humans who were bestowed the Elixir of Eternal Life. The Elixir is made by the Apothecarial College and is capable of making the drinker immortal. However, all who drink the elixir die and only a few rise once more as Lichnee.
Those who are reborn start their new life very weak. When the lichnee rises its soul is placed into a phylactery, normally an obsidian bead. This bead is all that keeps them from joning the numerous others who failed to pass the elixir's test. As the Lichnee becomes acustomed to their new body they also learn to control their abilities. The longer a Lichnee has been alive the more fearsome it becomes.
A Lichnee is a gaunt skeletal creature with remains of withered flesh stretched tightly around its bones. Its eyes are one of the first things to rot away and are replaced with pinpoints of manevolent looking light. Lichnee are often noted for their smell when they are first created, a curious stench of rotting flesh and flowery perfume.
