Nessar has existed for about 1000years. The Founders arrived in a great ship, and declared this land to be theirs. Little is known of what may have been here before, because the Founders were quite thorough in their conquest. They proceeded to set rules for society to live by, then established the Great Schools of magical study. It is unknown from where the founders came, and none of the lands to be found around the Sea of Tempests bears any resemblence to Nessar. The people that populate the country, with the exception of the numerous slaves and the Gith, are descended from the people who sailed with the founders.
A researcher in Dimensional Magics discovered the Three Gods. He began to call himself "The Prophet", and founded the Thamaturgical Sect. The Sect itself is nearly destroyed in the civil war that erupted. The Prophet disappeared from Nessar, some rumors say he is studing magic in another plane.
A strange Crystal Ship crashes into mainland Nessar, seeming to have erupted from the earth itself. The masters of the great schools mysteriously choose to ignore it, to great public consternation. There are numerous sightings of gaunt figures emerging from the glowing wreckage at night. After 50 years, humanoid creatures emerge from their ship, having undergone an internal schizm. Roughly half remain behind, and the other half choose to join Nessarian society. Those that remain behind become known as the "void gazers", and the others become the "Gith". The various schools quickly compete to induct gith into their ranks, as they are very adept with magic, though they are rejected by the School of Fire for reasons unknown. The Gith themselves avoid the Thamaturgical sect, finding it distasteful.
