Aderon Calander (Public Access: RW Owner:aderon)


In the current calander there are 12 months, each with 30 days and 5 weeks per month(each week is 6 days) There are a total of 365 days in a year and the last 5 days are called end days, it is also known as a special week: Week of Rest.
*current year: 1442 (Year name: Macrodias the Peaceful) *Year names are only really kept track of by the Avandigar record keepers and are normally named after the current king.

 

Months:

Dwarf – Named long ago in honor of the dwarves and the creation of ale. After the Religous War this was a popular month to showcase the various dwarf beards that were collected throughout the prior year. This practice has only recently begun to disapear.

 

Jinn – Named after the legend of Iolos, who was a girl from a low class family that met a mythical Jinn who granted her the wish of beauty and wealth. The story ends when her jealous brother killed her with an icicle. She is known as the Lady of Winter.

 

Nymph – The fabled beauty of the nymph is used to describe the begining of spring and this month.

 

Ankeg – Named for the trouble that this months namesake cause during their active months, which actually start at the end of Nymph and till the end of Hippogriff.

 

Hippogriff – Named after the noble beasts that are kept at the Capital City Avandigar for the Knigts of the Wing.

 

Angel – Named due to the folklore that during the begining of summer angels move among the people seeking the comforts of a mortal bed and forgiving the wicked for the deeds of the past.

 

Dragon – The hottest month anywhere in Andaria, legend says that dragons once ruled these lands and the people would pay tribute to them each year during this month.

 

Ent – Named after the legends of a forest of trees that once took residence in Andaria. Ent symbolizes the end of summer.

 

Folk – The first month of Fall, this month is named after the Lizardfolk who once occupied large areas of swamp in Andaria. During this month the Folk would become dangerously active but ever since the swamps shrunk the sightings of the Folk have become more rare.

 

Stunty – Named after the Halflings in Andaria, traditionally halfings were hunted during this month and their bodies/heads were often used to decroate homes and places of business for good luck. This practice has not been done in over 200 years.

 

Owl – The Wizards of Andaria believe the Owl to be a symbol of wisdom and patients and so this month was named.

 

Death – The first month of winter, named after the diety Death. This month is believed to be the only time in which death can be seen on the mortal plane.

 

Holidays:

Winter's End Festival: 1st of Dwarf. This celebrates the coming of a new year and asks all to have a drink to continued and hopefully prosperous life as well as all those who feel in the year prior. It is most often celebrated with brews special to the occassion. The festivites are generally celebrated everywhere but are noteably grand in Kal Dal, which is open for this day only for all to join in and buy up dwarven brew from the source. Merchants, especially dwarven vendors, tend to make quite a lot of money during this day.

 

The Hunt: 5th of Ankeg. This holiday marks open season for Ankegs, a dangerous sport indeed. This day of celebration is normally a competition held to display the skills of would be Ankeg hunters.

 

Dragon Celebration: 15th of Dragon. This is a week long celebration that starts on Midweek of the third week of Dragon. The holiday, over the years, has become a day to buy rare or expensive gifts to give to loved ones and a popular day to get married in order to have a wealthy life.

 

Harvest's End Festival: 30th of Owl. This day celebrates the end of all remaining harvests for the year and the coming snow. It is normally celebrated with public dinners and passionate nights with loved ones or professional companions.

 

Festival of Rest 25th of Death. This day is to give tribute to the dead and to give thanks for whatever the year has brought. Each celebrate the day seperately but almost all places of business close down for the day each year and progressively function for less hours of day until the end of the Week of Rest.

 

Week of Rest: Last 5 days of the year. The Week of rest is a 5 day celebration where most business function minimally and much drinking is done. Following the Week of rest is the Winter's end Festival. Also the last day of Death is known as Year's End and the first day of Dwarf is known as name of year's day.

 

Days of the Week:

1 Brew day – Named for the religous practice of dwarves to only brew on this day.

2 Market Day – When traveling merchants tend to get most business and try to be at their destination at this day.

3 Midweek - middle of the week.

4 Feast Day – On this day most take off work early and enjoy the largest dinner they can afford. It is believed it originally had a religous purpose, but it has been lost after the War.

5 Coin Day – Most who work under contract are payed on this day, including soldiers.

6 Week's End – The end of the week.
